Vehicle Registration Hold

E-470 and CDOT’s Colorado Tranportation Investment Office (CTIO) initiated a program authorized by Colorado State Law to request that the Department of Revenue Division of Motor Vehicles place a hold on vehicle registrations of vehicle owners who have not paid their tolls, fees and civil penalties. In every case, E-470 and CTIO have made at least nine previous attempts to contact the vehicle owner to collect these tolls, fees and civil penalties.

Who is eligible to receive a vehicle registration hold?

Customers who have received final orders of liability for unpaid tolls are eligible to receive a hold on their vehicle registration. These customers have driven E-470 and/or the CDOT Express Lanes many times over a long period of time without paying tolls.

If tolls are unpaid, what can E-470 do for a customer to prevent a vehicle registration hold?

Call the ExpressToll Service Center immediately at (303) 537-3470 and pay the total balance due. Payment options are available and can be detailed by a customer service representative. E-470 and CTIO want to work with customers to ensure all toll obligations are paid well before any vehicle registration hold is placed.

The county clerk informed me that E-470 placed a hold on my vehicle registration. How can I get this hold removed?

Call the ExpressToll Service Center immediately at (303) 537-3470 and pay the total balance due with a credit or debit card. Payment options are available and can be explained by a customer service representative. Once a payment solution is created for a vehicle owner, the hold can be quickly lifted and the registration of their vehicle can be renewed with the county clerk.

How will E-470 notify customers of the Vehicle Registration Hold?

Eligible customers are mailed two Vehicle Registration Hold letters. The letter provides the customer with payment options to pay their toll
obligation prior to a hold being put in place. Customers refusing to pay their toll obligation will not be able to renew their vehicle registration. In addition, customers will not receive their vehicle registration renewal postcard in the mail from their County Clerk’s office.
