Jeff Baker is serving his third and final term as Arapahoe County Commissioner representing District 3, which includes portions of the cities of Centennial and Aurora, the Town of Foxfield, the towns of Bennett and Deer Trail, and unincorporated eastern Arapahoe County. He was sworn into office on January 9, 2025, and his current term expires in January 2029. He served as the Board's Chair Pro Tem in 2025.
In April 2025, Governor Polis appointed Commissioner Baker to the State Board of Human Services, where he works alongside other county commissioners to establish rules and policies for the Colorado Department of Human Services.
Baker is a Colorado native who has lived in Arapahoe County for over 30 years. He is a retired United States Army Chief Warrant Officer and military police officer who was deployed to Iraq in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Following his military service, he spent nearly five years as the supervisor of Crime Scene Investigation for the Aurora Police Department, where he also taught Forensic Science and Crime Scene Investigation at the Community College of Aurora Police Academy.
Prior to his election as commissioner in 2016, Baker worked for Arapahoe County for 18 years in various roles, including manager of facility and property operations for Facilities and Fleet Management and in the Human Services Finance and Administrative Services Division. Baker holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland and a master's degree in public administration from the University of Colorado Denver, with a concentration in local government.
As commissioner, Baker serves as the internal liaison for the Public Works and Development and Facilities and Fleet Management departments, and represents the county on various boards and committees including the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG), Centennial Airport Commission, and the Arapahoe County Foundation Board of Directors.
Baker has been married since 1980 to Yangson Baker, a social worker. They have two adult children and one granddaughter, and are active members of Young-Nak Presbyterian Church of Denver, where Jeff serves as a Deacon overseeing the Youth Ministry Program.
